Welcome to Syamsundar College
Syamsundar College was founded by late Raibahadur Bisalaksha Bose, the esteemed social worker of the village Shyamsundar, Dist. Burdwan on 12th August, 1948. Former ministers of the Govt. of West Bengal Abdus Sattar, Kalipada Mukherjee and Prafulla Chandra Sen and renowned freedom fighter such as Jadabendra Nath Panja helped a lot in establishing the college at Shyamsundar. P. C. Sen , the former Chief Minister of West Bengal was selected as the first President to the Governing Body of the college. Mr. Shib Mohan Bose, the highly qualified son of Mr. Bose had been appointed as the first Principal of the college.
Initially, Arts, Science and Commerce streams were introduced in the college at Intermediate level.In 1952, on Bisalaksha Basu's special request, Sri Fakirdas Bandyopadhyay, ADPI of undivided Bengal joined as the Principal of the College. Sri Bandyopadhyay, a close associate of famous poet Nazrul Islam, was a renowed scholar of Philosophy with foreign degrees and an able administrator with imposing personality. He was instrumental in upgrading the College to the Degree level with the co-operation of Sib Mohan Bose. In 1956, the College was notified as a Govt. Sponsored Degree College in the Education Gazette.

Our Mission and Vision
Syamsundar College is serving the entire South Damodar delta region as the main torch-bearer of higher learning and research. The college is running successfully along with its several streams such as Humanities and Social Sciences, Physical and Biological Sciences, Commerce etc. It has an extended morning section where professional subjects like Physical education are being taught for last few years. Moreover, a number of faculty attached wits this college has earned reputation in their research and scholastic activities inside country and abroad. Initially, the college started with its motto to create graduate students in each and every family living in this vast rural and agrarian area. Such noble objectives should be fulfilled.
From the Principal's Desk
I am extremely fortunate to serve the Syamsundar College (Govt. spnd.) established in 1948, affiliated to the University of Burdwan as Principal since July, 2015. I must admit gladly that our teachers are so dedicated and innovative and our staff are very caring as well as students-friendly. We receive wise and prudent directives and suggestions as guidance from time to time from our Governing Body guided by Hon'ble President including Govt. nominees, nominee of West Bengal State Council of Higher Education, representatives of the B.U, representatives from College's teaching, non-teaching staff and students' forum.
I feel really proud to be an essential part of such continuous teaching learning activities centering round the campus for the all-round wellbeing as well as benefits of our beloved students mostly hailing from remote, rural population of South Damodar delta.
